President Donald Trump's communications chief Steven Cheung posted a furious tirade to X after Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) called out the president's efforts to conceal the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case files in an interview this week.
The controversy stems from the release of emails that showed, among other things, Epstein bragging to co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell that Trump knew all along about "the girls" but was the "dog that hasn't barked."
Stansbury, speaking to CNN, called the allegations “extraordinarily explosive,” and said, “And so the question is, what did Donald Trump have on them? Was he engaged in these activities? And why is Donald Trump calling Republican members of the House today and yesterday to threaten them to get off of the discharge petition?”
However, a right-wing outlet attacked her, seizing on what it claimed was her hedging the significance of the claims because the email in question had already been revealed to be about Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre, though it was redacted from the latest release.
Although this source appeared to be conflating the identity of the victim in the email with the details about Epstein bragging about Trump's silence, Cheung ran with it, posting an attack on Stansbury in reply.
"DUMMY ALERT: @Rep_Stansbury may be the stupidest member of Congress. That or she is a stone-cold liar," he wrote. "Either way, she beclowned herself on national television, flailing around like jellyfish (which doesn't have a brain!) when confronted with the truth/facts."
Cheung has become notorious for his foul-mouthed and schoolyard insults against various politicians and media figures who criticize the president. Despite his loyalty, Trump has reportedly sidelined him from public events because of his weight.
