Comedy Central hosts bid adieu to 'award-winning xenophobe' Dobbs

The comedians at Comedy Central found unique ways to say goodbye to CNN's Lou Dobbs Thursday. The opinionated CNN anchor was released from his contract after the network had been besieged by critics for months for his anti-immigration advocacy.

"That's why it pains me that I'm being replaced -- by a Mexican robot," joked Jon Stewart.

While Stephen Colbert called Dobbs a "long time anchor and award-winning xenophobe."

Dobbs contract was set to expire in 2011 but quit early causing Stewart to compare him to the former Alaskan Governor who also left her job abruptly. "Oh, no. Lou Dobbs is going Palin. He's going rogue," observed Stewart. "We've got another rogue. That's two rogues."

In his final broadcast, Dobbs explained why he was leaving the network. "Leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem solving as well as to contribute positively to a better understanding of the great issues of our day," said Dobbs.

But this explanation didn't make sense to the Comedy Central comic. "So in order to contribute positively to a better understanding of the issues of our day, you must leave your nightly television show devoted to understanding the issues of our day," said a puzzled Stewart.

"I actually agree with you on that one," Stewart concluded.

Comedy Central's other headliner took a more lighthearted approach to Dobbs' departure. Playing off of the movie "Highlander," Stephen Colbert claimed Dobbs' audience for his own saying, "In punditry, like in the Highlander, there can be only one. Lou Dobbs, I claim your audience and your opinions!"
