Street artists transform crime-ridden Mexican neighborhood into giant rainbow mural

The Mexican government, in an effort to revive a hillside neighborhood torn by drug violence and poverty, hired a crew of street artists to transform the Palmitas district in the city of Pachuca.

According to Street Art News, the government hired the so-called "Germen Crew" to paint some 209 houses, benefitting 452 families -- around 1,808 people.

The project not only beautified the area, but created jobs. Violence among young people has reportedly fallen since the project began.
