Suburban moms call Trump reaction to Charlottesville a turning point: 'I don't want my kids looking up to that'

Surburban Virginia moms met with CNN's Ana Cabrera to give their grades for President Donald Trump. At least two of the women described Charlottesville a turning point for them.

"I feel he has done nothing but divide our country further apart, and, you know, he -- Charlottesville was huge for me," said Lana Craven. "To see the president of the United States get up and say that there's good people on both sides really, really hurt. I don't want my kids looking up to that. I don't want my kids thinking that racism is acceptable."

"My daughter was crying on the couch when she saw my friend from Sterling, Virginia have to jump out of the way of that car," said Kristine Condie, who gave Trump an "F" grade. "Yes. No one in the Commonwealth of Virginia should ever have to fear for their lives when they are at a rally supporting diversity."

Three out of the five women gave Trump an "F," and even one woman who gave the president an "incomplete" agreed the president has his issues.

"I think the jury is out on Donald Trump. He's done a lot right and along wrong and as Republicans we're watching him," Jo Thoburn. "There's a good chance he'll have a primary in two years. We don't know yet."

She said she disagrees with him on immigration and tariffs, calling them "huge issues."

When it came to special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, all believed that the investigation should go forward and discounted Trump's accusation that it was a "witch hunt."

They also were quick to call out senior counselor Kellyanne Conway for trying to make lying acceptable.

"Facts are facts," said Condie. "One plus one is two so there is nothing like an alternative fact. An alternative fact is a lie, and our president lies regularly every single day. He has lost the ability to communicate with our allies because we are no longer trusted."

The women are all from the 10th Congressiona District, where Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA) is polling ten points down from her Democratic opponent.
