Suicidal Massachusetts woman shot by police for refusing to drop knife

An unnamed Weymouth, MA woman was gunned down by police after she refused to comply with orders to drop a knife.

According to Boston's Fox 25 News, Weymouth police were called to a home around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday on reports of a woman with a knife who was trying to commit suicide.

The first officer to arrive on the scene was reportedly met at the door by a 46-year-old woman who was highly agitated and wielding a large knife.

The officer backed away from the door and into the street, drawing a weapon and ordering the woman to drop the knife. When she refused, he fired one shot into her abdomen.

Paramedics took the woman to South Shore Hospital were she is under arrest while being treated for her injuries.

WCVB News said that the woman is facing charges of assault with a dangerous weapon.
