A Democratic Congresswoman issued a dark warning on Saturday after the Supreme Court delivered "a devastating blow" to Americans in its latest decision.
Last week, the Supreme Court invalidated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act in its opinion in Louisiana v. Callais. The ruling effectively paved the way for states to racially gerrymander their election maps, according to some experts, and states like Louisiana and Alabama have already leaped at the prospect of redoing their maps.
Rep. Yvette Clark (D-NY) told Rev. Al Sharpton on MS NOW's "PoliticsNation" that the Supreme Court's ruling is "a devastating blow" that will impact Americans for generations to come.
"This is adevastating blow," Clark said. "There's nodoubt about it. We can'tsugarcoat it. This is somethingthat will impact communitiesfor generations to come, if Congress does not act."
"So we have a veryserious matter before us," she continued. "Andit's going to take state-by-state litigation, voter registration at a massivelevel, to overcome what these folks have cooked up. And massive turnoutfollowing that."
