Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett testified before Congress about the need for increased security funding for the Court, citing years of threats and violence against judges.
Her testimony prompted fierce backlash from MAGA activists, who called for her resignation and alleged her security concerns influenced her judicial decisions against President Donald Trump, according to The Daily Beast.
Barrett's testimony primarily addressed threats related to her Roe v. Wade vote, in which she sided with conservatives. However, Republicans focused on her recent ruling striking down Trump's birthright citizenship restriction order in June, insinuating without evidence that intimidation swayed her vote.
Former FBI agent Kyle Seraphin wrote, “Millions of police officers and military members explain body armor to their kids every day. If you can’t explain to a 12-year-old boy, you have no business making national decisions.”
Similarly, former InfoWars reporter Breanna Morello posted on X, "Justice Amy Coney Barrett is discussing all the threats she’s facing. It’s sad and shouldn’t happen, but this shouldn’t be an excuse to cave."
"Her rulings have been out of character," she continued, "If these threats are an issue for her family, she should step down now.”
The controversy coincides with Trump supporters criticizing ICE czar Tom Homan for pausing traffic stops after Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents fatally shot Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, in Texas and Joan Sebastián Guerrero, 26, in Maine.
