Taft students say gunman had a hit list and was bullied

The teen who injured at least two people with a shotgun at a high school in Taft, California was previously kicked out of school for having a "hit list," students and parents said.

"He had a hit list of who he wanted to kill and I guess last year he wasn't in school, he got kicked out because of it," one female student explained to CNN. "He came back this year and I guess this happened."

Angela Hayden, whose 16-year-old daughter attends the Taft Union High School, also said it was known the suspect had threatened to kill other students. She told the Los Angeles Times that "he had a list of people who messed with him over the years" and planned to shoot them.

The suspect told police that he targeted students who had bullied him in school, according to the Associated Press. Other students confirmed that the suspect was frequently teased.

"All I ever heard about him was good things from my son," Trish Montes, who lived next door to the suspect, told the Associated Press. "He wasn't Mr. Popularity, but he was a smart kid. It's a shame. My kid said he was like a genius. It's a shame because he could have made something of himself."
