Tennessee man arrested for possession after 'butt-dialing' 911 and talking about drugs

A 25-year-old man from Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee was arrested after his cell phone accidentally dialed 911 and transmitted audio of him talking about getting high and visiting a drug dealer's house.

According to Nashville's WKRN Channel 2, Grant O'Connor was sitting with a female friend at Don Pepe's Mexican restaurant in downtown Mt. Pleasant on Friday night when his cell phone dialed 911.

Dispatchers said a call came in to the Maury County 911 Center and they were able to overhear O'Connor talking about taking drugs and his intention to go to a drug dealer's house to purchase more.

"When it hits you, dude," says a man on the 911 audio tape as the Kiesza song "Hideaway" plays from the restaurant's speakers, "it makes you feel like tiny little pins are in your body, but it's, like, a good feeling, not a bad feeling. All these pleasure shivers."

Police say the man on the tape is O'Connor.

Officers determined the location of the call and sent a cruiser to the restaurant. As O'Connor and the woman left the parking lot, police noted that their vehicle had a malfunctioning tag light and pulled him over.

A roadside search produced a baggie with a small amount of marijuana from under the passenger seat and drug paraphernalia.

The woman driving said that she did not know the drugs were in the vehicle and was released by police.

Officers took O'Connor to the Maury County Jail and charged with simple possession of drugs and paraphernalia. He bonded out later that evening.

Officers said that the suspect did not know that he had dialed 911 until officers told him.

"They made what is known as a 'butt call,'" said Officer Michael Hay of the Mt. Pleasant Police Department to WKRN, "but they made it to 911."
