Texas attorney general: Democrats 'far more dangerous' than nuclear-armed Kim Jong Un

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (R) warned Republicans this week that President Barack Obama's administration and some Democrats in Texas were "far more dangerous" than North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who has reportedly threatened to blow up Austin with nuclear weapons.

At a Monday meeting of the McLennan County Republican Club in Waco, Abbott said the president would be jeopardizing the Second Amendment rights of Americans if he signed a United Nations arms treaty that is designed to regulate the sell of military weapons like tanks, aircraft, missiles and small arms.

In a letter to the White House earlier this month, the Texas attorney general threatened to sue the federal government if the treaty was ratified.

"We fought a war in 1776 to fight against foreign dictators telling us what to do, not now to turn around and give that power to them," Abbott said on Monday, according to the Waco Tribune. “That’s why I sent a letter to the president ... informing the president that Texas is not going to tolerate this cession of authority to the U.N.”

The possible 2014 gubernatorial candidate also alerted the McLennan County Republicans about Battleground Texas, a group created by two veterans of Obama's reelection campaign that is working to put the Lone Star State's 38 electoral votes in the Democrats' column.

"One thing that requires ongoing vigilance is the reality that the state of Texas is coming under a new assault, an assault far more dangerous than what the leader of North Korea threatened when he said he was going to add Austin, Texas, as one of the recipients of his nuclear weapons," Abbott insisted. "The threat that we’re getting is the threat from the Obama administration and his political machine."

A McLennan County Republican Party official told Raw Story on Tuesday that the party had not made a recording of the meeting, but hoped video of Abbott's comments turned up online because it was a "good speech."

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) told CBS News earlier this month that Kim Jong Un had targeted Austin for attack because of his success during 12 years as governor.

"What I will suggest to you is that one of the reasons that Austin is put on the map is that he put very important American cities on the map," Perry opined. “Economically, what has happened in Texas over the course of the last decade has made this city an epicenter for a lot of technology and a lot of economic development.”
