Texas teen killed himself after fatally stabbing mother and brother: police

Both a contributor to a Dallas television station and her youngest son were stabbed to death by her oldest son -- who then fatally stabbed himself, WFAA-TV reported.

Authorities said 19-year-old McCann Utu Jr. contacted them early on Friday morning and said he was stabbing himself while also admitting that he killed his 17-year-old brother Josiah Utu as well as 45-year-old Stacy Fawcett, who contributed to weekly food-related segments on WFAA's Saturday morning newscast.

McCann Utu Jr. died from his self-inflicted injuries at a local hospital. Both victims were dead by the time police arrived at the family's apartment in Plano.

"I'm in so much pain and need to grieve for my boys and Stacy right now," said McCann Utu Sr., the two teens' father, in a statement. "I will stay in touch when the time is right. Please respect this time for me and my entire for family. Thank you ... God will use my pain to help and save other that are going through mental illness and concussion. God will glorify through my pain."

According to Fawcett's brother, McCann Utu Jr. had been living with what was described as a "a traumatic brain injury" he sustained while playing basketball for Plano West High School more than a year ago.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Fawcett -- who was billed as Dallas' "favorite foodie" -- was a contributor for not only WFAA, but a local radio station. She also operated a food-related website devoted to "bringing awareness to hunger and those dealing with food insecurity."

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Stacy's family," WFAA executive news director Carolyn Mungo said. "She was a valuable contributor to our WFAA weekend morning team. She loved sharing her passion for food with us and with the viewers in north Texas, and she will be missed."
