Whoopi Goldberg blasted gun enthusiasts on Thursday's edition of "The View" for insisting in the wake of the shooting incident at a congressional baseball practice on Wednesday that people will be safer if everyone is armed.
"Some of the Republicans that were there yesterday say they're going to be carrying guns now because they think they could have prevented this," Goldberg said.
"So, let me, as a person who owns guns and has been shot at," she continued.
"What?" said co-host Sunny Hostin.
"Yes, listen, when you hear shots, people run, okay? You run to get out of the way. You don't have time to stop and go, 'Hey!'" Goldberg said as she pantomimed reaching for a holster.
Experts say that non-law enforcement people who introduce more guns into an active shooting incident will only make the problem worse. They run the risk of injuring bystanders and of making themselves a target of law enforcement as Goldberg pointed out.
"That's not the answer," she said.
"Law enforcement officers will tell you," said Hostin, "when there's more than one person that has a gun it makes the situation more dangerous for them because they don't know who they bad guys are. More guns is not the answer."
