'The most racist politician in America': Top Dem calls out Obama-hating, anti-immigrant Kansas official

Kansas state Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley called out the state's secretary of state over the weekend for being "the most racist politician in America."

On his radio show last week, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach had responded to a caller who asserted that President Barack Obama was planning to halt "any prosecutions of black criminals."

“Well, it’s already happened more or less in the case of civil rights laws, so I guess it’s not a huge jump,” Kobach told the caller. “I think it’s unlikely, but you know I’ve learned to say with this president, never say never.”

At the Kansas Democratic Party's Washington Day event on Saturday, Hensley said that it was time for Kobach to step down.

“I want to take this opportunity to call on Kris Kobach, the most racist politician in America today, to resign from office,” Hensley said.

According to The Topeka Capital-Journal, Hensley's remarks received "a standing ovation and some of the loudest applause of the night"

On Friday, activists in Topeka rallied before the Washington Days event to stop what they said was voter suppression by Kobach, who had refused to validate more than 20,000 registrations during the last election.

A biography from the SPLC describes Kobach as a "hard-core conservative activist" with a history of expressing "birther" views, helping Arizona write its anti-immigrant SB 1070 law, and subjecting members of his own party to a "loyalty committee" if they took donations from Democrats.
