On Friday, CNN's Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo railed against President Donald Trump for being "ignorant" and spreading hateful ideologies.
A mass shooting at two New Zealand mosques left 49 people dead according to CNN. After the shooting, President Donald Trump failed to unequivocally condemn right-wing terrorism.
Cuomo called out Trump for telling a pool of reporters that there was an "invasion" at the US border, after the shooting in New Zealand.
"On the day that we're trying to deal with 49 people massacred for being different and a man in a manifesto says immigrants are the problem and you do this?" Cuomo said. "Context matters. Does anything get through to be bigger than your own immediate political need?"
Lemon said that Trump is aware of how his actions have a dangerous impact even if he won't admit it.
"Maybe he doesn't know or maybe he doesn't know the specifics but for him to not be able to know that right-wing extremism is on the rise is very ignorant," Lemon said.
"He does whatever is politically expedient to him," he added. "The racists think he's racists and they support him and he doesn't want to lose that support. He cannot win an election with just his base next time and they're a vocal and active part of his base."
"Donald Trump knows what's happening. He knows what's up. He's just playing people for suckers. That's what he is doing. He knows what is going on," Lemon said.
"He's racist. We need to come to terms with that in order to be able to stop it," Lemon said.
