The View's Sunny Hostin shames Chris Christie for humiliating himself with Trump endorsement: 'He lied -- then you stumped for him'

The View's Sunny Hostin put former New Jersey governor and author of Let Me Finish: Trump, the Kushners, Bannon, New Jersey, and the Power of In-Your-Face Politics Chris Christie on the spot Tuesday, forcing the ex-governor to explain his support for then-candidate Donald Trump after the campaign went after him for his role in shutting down the George Washington Bridge in 2013, the scandal known as Bridgegate.

"You've been friends with Trump for 16 years," said Hostin. "I'm just surprised that friendship survived the primaries." She went on to read from Christie's book about how Trump made unfounded accusations that Christie "totally knew" about the scheme in advance, as Christie nodded and mugged for the audience.

"He lied about it -- and then you get on national television and stump for him," Hostin exclaimed. "How do you reconcile that within yourself? Because in my world those are shots fired. You call me a criminal, I'm not stumping."

"Yeah those were shots fired, and in your world maybe when shots get fired you have to go to, as they would say in the mafia, to the mattresses and everybody just tries to kill everybody," Christie replied. "In politics shots are fired every day, and the people who fire a shot at you today are people that you have to work with tomorrow."

Christie added that after Trump's attack he counterpunched "harder than I had ever gone after him" and said that eventually the candidate called him to apologize. Christie went on to endorse Trump for president, but soon found himself regularly humiliated by his new boss, and ultimately discarded at the behest of the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, whose father was sent to prison by Christie.
