The confirmation of former University Hospital CEO Shereef Elnahal as under secretary for health at the U.S. Veterans Affairs Department hit a snag after a Republican senator blocked an effort to fast-track the vote. Elhanal, who was nominated by President Joe Biden in March, was unanimously approved by the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee in early May after a hearing.
