New York Times columnist and Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman on Friday posted a furious tweet storm in which he explained the real reason President Donald Trump is sabotaging the Affordable Care Act -- because he knows he's a failed president, and he only wants to hurt people on the way out the door.
"So the sabotage of health care is in full swing and out in the open," Krugman begins, referring to Trump's announced plan to gut health insurer subsidies weeks before the open enrollment period starts. "And the motive is the scariest thing. This is obviously not about any kind of policy strategy, or even about a coherent political strategy. It's sheer spite on Trump's part."
Krugman explained that since Trump has proven himself to be incapable of passing legislation through Congress, his only move left is to sabotage the social safety net. Krugman notes that this kind of mentality has even more ominous potential consequences when it comes to America's foreign policy.
"He's an utter failure as president, and he clearly knows it, so he's lashing out and breaking things just because he can," he writes. "Today he's blowing up Obamacare. Tomorrow, maybe, the world."
