Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Thursday shot down claims by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) that he had helped recruit him to play at Texas Tech during his time as a college football coach.
As reported by Athlon Sports, Tuberville said during an interview with right-wing talk show host Megyn Kelly on Thursday that "Patrick Mahomes was one of the best players I ever had the opportunity to recruit and get to know" during his coaching career.
The basis for this claim was already eyebrow-raising since Tuberville served as head coach at Texas Tech from 2010 until 2012, whereas Mahomes didn't start playing there until 2013.

What's more, Mahomes explicitly told Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Gabriela Carroll on Thursday that Tuberville's claim was false.
"He did not recruit me at the time," he said. "I don't remember if I ever got to meet him or not."
Mahomes, who has won three Super Bowls and two NFL MVP awards in his illustrious career, will try to win his fourth championship when he faces off against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
