A Chevy pickup truck on Tuesday morning plowed into a crowd of people who were protesting for higher wages in Michigan -- but police say they believe the driver was not intentionally trying to hurt people.
MLive.com reports that a large group of protesters were demonstrating in Flint, Michigan early Tuesday morning when they were struck by a truck that was driving up to the rear of where they were marching.
After hitting the protesters, the truck then veered off into oncoming traffic and was struck by an energy truck, MLive.com reports.
Democratic Michigan gubernatorial nominee Gretchen Whitmer was marching in solidarity with the protesters, although she was not hurt and was taken from the scene shortly after the accident occurred.
A total of eight people were hospitalized as a result of the crash, although Flint Police Chief Tim Johnson tells MLive.com that their injuries did not appear to be serious.
Johnson also said he had no reason to believe that the truck's driver was trying to strike the protesters.
"He seemed pretty shaken up," he said of the driver. "I don't think it was intentional."
