President Donald Trump said his administration is close to reaching a "mindbogglingly historic" deal with Harvard University to address "large-scale improprieties."
Trump made the comments on his social media network, Truth Social.
"We have been working closely with Harvard, and it is very possible that a Deal will be announced over the next week or so," Trump wrote in the post. "They have acted extremely appropriately during these negotiations, and appear to be committed to doing what is right."
"If a Settlement is made on the basis that is currently being discussed, it will be 'mindbogglingly' HISTORIC, and very good for our Country," the post continued.
The comments came as a federal judge on Friday blocked the Trump administration's efforts to prevent Harvard from enrolling foreign students. U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs preserved Harvard's ability to enroll foreign students while the lawsuit makes its way through the court system.
The Trump administration previously attempted to eliminate Harvard's Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification, which allows students to enroll at the university using specific visas. Trump made the move after Harvard refused to change its policies regarding on-campus protests.
A lawyer for Harvard argued that the Trump administration was “using international students as pawns," NBC reported. The Department of Justice argued that the administration had "national security concerns" about the foreign students.
Trump has also attempted to stymy Harvard and other Ivy League colleges by revoking billions in federal education grants. The courts have ruled that those actions were illegal, although the cases remain ongoing.
