For more than a week, the MAGA world has been ablaze over the fact that Attorney General Pam Bondi refused to release the Jeffrey Epstein files despite promising to do so just a few months ago.
Now, new evidence puts that decision in a new light.
The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday evening that President Donald Trump sent Epstein a "bawdy" letter for his 50th birthday. The letter contains an outline of a naked woman, and Trump's signature is scribbled across the woman's waist as if to resemble pubic hair, according to the report. Trump also included a made-up conversation in which he tells Epstein that the two men "have certain things in common."
To David Axelrod, a former speechwriter for President Barack Obama, the bombshell report has "created a political headache" for Trump.
Axelrod made the comments on CNN's "OutFront" with host Erin Burnett shortly after the WSJ report was published.
"His politics have been hoisted on their own petard there," Axelrod said. "They rode these conspiracy theories, and maybe not conspiracy theories, about Jeffrey Epstein all throughout his campaigns. And now they're in the government and they're being held accountable for the things they've said."
Trump has tried to distance himself from the Epstein saga to no avail. He's personally called MAGA influencers and told them to stop talking about the story, and even attacked his base for caring about it.
"This is just more evidence as to why the Attorney General mysteriously did a 180, and didn't release what she promised to release," Axelrod continued.
