President Donald Trump was addressing the nation on Wednesday night, his first public address in several months.
His speech comes at a time when his poll numbers slide, and Democrats appear to have significant momentum heading into the 2026 midterm election. A recent NPR/PBS News/Marist poll found just 36% of voters approve of Trump's handling of the economy, which is the lowest of his presidency.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday shed some light on Trump's mystery announcement, telling Fox News, "We greatly look forward to President Trump addressing the nation tomorrow night, 9 o'clock Eastern."
"I hope your audience will tune in, and Americans across the country will tune in to hear from their president as well about the historic accomplishments that he has garnered for our country over the past year. If you look at the security of our border, if you look at stopping Joe Biden's inflation right in its tracks, bringing down gas prices to the lowest level in five years."
Democrats have won multiple key elections by focusing their messaging on addressing affordability, which is the top issue voters care about ahead of the midterm.
Trump, meanwhile, has called the focus on "affordability" a "Democrat scam."
