President Donald Trump posted a late-night screed on Wednesday targeting media outlets like CNN and The New York Times for their coverage of the peace plan for the war in Iran.
Yesterday, Trump announced that the U.S. and Iran had agreed to a two-week ceasefire while they negotiated a potential peace plan. Both the New York Times and CNN reported on a 10-point peace plan that would allow Iran to collect a toll from ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz, require the U.S. to withdraw all of its troops, and potentially give Iran the ability to continue enriching uranium.
Trump lashed out at that coverage on Truth Social.
"The Failing New York Times and Fake News CNN each reported a totally FAKE TEN POINT PLAN on the Iran negotiations which was meant to discredit the people involved in the peace process," Trump wrote. "All ten points were a made up HOAX - EVIL LOSERS!!! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN."
A spokesperson for CNN disputed Trump's allegations.
"The statement in question was obtained by CNN from Iranian officials and reported on multiple Iranian state media outlets. We received the statement from specific official Iranian spokespeople who are known to us," the spokesperson said.
