'Pandering': Trump brutally mocked for spewing 'racial tropes' at Black conservative event
February 24, 2024
Former president Donald Trump was the keynote speaker of the Black Conservative Federation's Annual BCF Honors Gala in Columbia, South Carolina, Friday, where he purportedly spread racial tropes in an effort to court minority voters.
Early in the speech, Trump celebrated being indicted several times, saying, "That's why Black people like me." He went on to make numerous other comments that were labeled as tone deaf or potentially even worse, and criticism on social media spread like wildfire.
"Trump says black people love him because he's a criminal. I told you guys, this is what they think of us," said a news editor.

One comment that stood out to political onlookers was when Trump said, "Unlike racist Joe Biden, I spent my entire life working with Black Americans to build buildings…"
"Trump was sued by the U.S. Justice Department for allegedly engaging in housing discrimination against Black-Americans," The Intellectualist wrote on Friday. "The lawsuit was settled."
Journalist Ahmed Baba also chimed in on that.
"Trump was literally sued by the DOJ for housing discrimination against Black people in 1973."
And Trump biographer Tim O'Brien even brought the receipts.
"Trump and his father were sued by the Justice Department in 1973 for racial discrimination against prospective Black tenants at their housing projects," he said while posting a legal filing from the case.
Another key moment was when Trump said, "These lights are so bright in my eyes I can't see too many people out there... I can only see the Black ones. I can't see any white ones. That's how far I've come. That's a long way isn't it?"
That one stunned a panel on CNN.
"Imagine what the media would do if Biden said that," wrote @KatrinaWTE Friday.
One commenter on X, @whoistrip, summed it up like this:
"This Trump pandering to black folks is amazing," he wrote on Friday. "He's such a bigot he doesn't even realize all the racial tropes he's spewing. He got one thing right tho, he amended MAGA admitting that it ain't never been great for us, and managed to oblivious even then."
