Donald Trump's "scathing" Truth Social rant in defense of his age and physical capabilities just made his problems worse, according to an analyst.
Journalist and political analyst Hayes Brown appeared on MSNOW over the weekend, where he flagged a "chaotic and unprecedented" power play Democrats might be able to try. After that, he was asked about a recent New York Times piece about Trump and his aging.
Of Trump's defenses to the aging report, the host asked, "Butyou say all this does is provethe point. How so?"
He replied, "I think that if you arepushing 80 and unwilling toadmit, yes, I am aging. Yes, Iam slowing down. Yes, somethings may take me longer, butI'm doing it the best I can, that I think, and justpretending it's not happening, that is a hit to yourcredibility."
He continued:
"Like the I knowthat the mythos that he'sputting out there, this thisaura of invincibility that heis eternal, that he is sopowerful, so strong, the utmostof masculinity. I know thatthat is what he puts out thereto his base. That's the imagehe wants to project, and thataging undercuts that. So hewants to try to ignore it. Butthe problem is, aging is areality. Like I feel like inthis country especially, wefetishize youth and aging is ataboo. And so in the emphasisof the former and vitality andstrength, we want to not evenlook at the latter."
Brown went on to tie it all together, saying Trump is the victim and the cause of his own version of a "Streisand effect."
"So intrying to deny the fact that heis getting older, Trump is Ifeel like drawing moreattention to those momentswhere it's obvious, like it'salmost a Streisand effect, youknow what I'm saying?" he said Saturday. "Likewhere even trying to deny astory and put something down, you're drawing more attentionto it."
