Trump aides prep for worst case scenario 'contingency plans' as they await Mueller revelations

While White House aides to President Donald Trump breathed a sigh of relief that there would be no additional indictments coming directly from special counsel Robert Mueller's office after he submitted his report to Attorney General William Barr, they are still making plans to push back should there be evidence of Russian collusion or financial crimes.

According to a report at Politico, the White House is preparing a counter-offensive against the Democrats if the Mueller report clears the president of wrongdoing -- turning into a 2020 presidential campaign talking point -- but there are still worries that the report may contain information damaging to the president.

Politico reports, "The White House legal and press teams have been working separately from the campaign and the RNC to write multiple statements and talking points for when the report is released, according to a person familiar with the process."

While former Trump adviser Michael Caputo urged the White House to "Go on the offensive," current White House aides are still concerned.

"Trump’s aides are not so confident that they aren’t also preparing for more damaging conclusions. Those could range from the most severe charges of collusion with Russians and obstruction of justice, to implications of the president’s associates in wrongdoing to a scathing assessment of his refusal to sit for an interview with Mueller," Politico reports, before adding, "One outside Trump adviser said the aides are concerned about writing down contingency plans for some of those negative outcomes in case they leak."

According to the report, should there be no major damaging revelations, Republicans are expected to flood the airwaves using the lack of charges to go after Democrats who are conducting their own investigations.

"Republicans will be unleashed," explained one Trump supporter.
