Before her television career, MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace worked in Republican politics. While her very public breakup with the party has been fodder for conversation with other disaffected Republicans on her show, it has also provided an inside look at how the GOP has become Donald Trump's party.
Speaking with another ex-Republican, Tim Miller, Wallace discussed Trump's latest comments at a Pennsylvania rally Saturday.
“Arnold Palmer was all man, and I say that in all due respect to women, I love women. … This man was strong and tough, and I refused to say it, but when he took showers with the other pros they came out of there, they said ‘Oh, my God. That’s unbelievable,’” Trump told the audience.

Faced with questions about the matter, House Speaker Mike Johnson tried to flip the script and say that it was CNN host Jake Tapper who was obsessed with the genitals, but it was shut down pretty quickly.
“I’m sure that you think that a policy debate would be better than a personality debate. But if President [Joe] Biden had gone on stage and spoken about the size of a pro golfer’s penis, I think you would be on this show right now saying you were shocked and appalled, and you would suggest it was evidence of his cognitive decline,” Tapper pressed.
Wallace said the issue is important, "even to the Trump voter," because Trump is "waving a red flag in front of the country in these final 16 days saying, 'Look how bats--- crazy I can be.'"
She said that if someone had already voted for Trump, "God may forgive you," but for those who are still waiting to vote, "He's making a fool of you."
Wallace said Trump believes his supporters want to hear him "weave" in and out of randomness "and talk about Arnold Palmer's penis as a metaphor for his virility. But again, I was in a sorority, and the only men who ever talk about the size of anyone's penis are the ones who are projecting some insecurity about their own."
This, she said, is Trump's message to the GOP base and that the Republican Party has come to this.
"I used to say that the Republican Party will say everything’s fine as long as Donald Trump doesn’t come out and play with his pee-pee on air. We’re there," Wallace said. "I mean, he's talking about Arnold Palmer's penis on TV and at rallies from a podium."
She closed by calling it "uncomfortable" and "disgusting."
