Attorneys for former President Donald Trump have asked U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon for a delay in a case where he was charged with mishandling classified documents.
In a motion filed on Thursday, attorneys Todd Blanche and Christopher Kise argued that special counsel Jack Smith had failed to turn over discovery documents in a timely manner.
"Last month, the Court invited defense motions if counsel encountered impediments to our ability to confer with our clients," the motion stated. "It is hard to imagine a more fundamental impediment to that process than the failure of the Special Counsel's Office to timely produce discovery that is central to the pending charges."

The motion asked "for an adjournment of the trial date until at least mid-November 2024." If granted, the trial would not occur until after the 2024 presidential election.
The attorneys have previously asked for delays that would have moved the trial after the election.
Cannon was scheduled on Thursday to hear arguments about whether lawyers for Trump's co-defendants in the case have conflicts of interest.
