Former president Donald Trump on Saturday claimed his multiple indictments are "a great badge of courage," essentially welcoming authorities to charge him in other cases while speaking at a Christian event in Washington, D.C., to promote his bid for the Republican nomination for presidency in 2024.
Trump, who is currently facing federal charges in Florida in connection with his alleged hoarding of confidential records from his time in executive office, spoke at the Faith and Freedom Coalition's event, entitled "Road to Majority." Among other things, Trump took aim at atheists and communists, all while promising to "evict crooked Joe Biden."
When addressing the criminal cases against him, Trump claimed on stage that the Espionage Act has nothing to do with his case, in which he faces numerous felony charges for his purported retaining and potential sharing of documents from the presidency, and that it should instead be governed by the Presidential Records Act, a civil act. Trump noted that, in school, he "never learned" about being indicted or criminally charged.
He further claimed that former Democratic president Bill Clinton kept his audio recordings "in a sock drawer," and that Trump kept his "in boxes outside of the White House." He said Clinton won his case over the recordings, so the same should apply to his own case, but didn't address the differences between those two separate cases.
In addition to railing against his federal criminal indictment, Trump claimed that radical liberals are "waging war on God almighty himself."
