Speaking on CNN this Monday, POLITICO's Rachel Bade said that Republican politicians feared that former president Donald Trump would hurt their chances of retaking Congress.
Election fraud "is not a topic that Republicans want to be talking about, obviously. It is embarrassing for them. They think it is going to cause them problems in 2022," she said.
"So what they do, whenever they are asked about this, they change the subject. They try to send a message to Trump and tell him what they want him to talk about. I think for Republicans the midterms are shaping up to be a bit of deja vu. It's like Georgia all over again," Bade added.
Wall Street Journal reporter Josh Jamerson also spoke about Republicans who refuse to disavow the "Big Lie" espoused by Trump and his allies, which claims that the 2020 election was "rigged" by way of mass voter fraud.
According to Jamerson, part of the reason is that Republicans realize that "Trump voters are their voters."
Jamerson harkened back to a rally Trump attended where he was trying to help salvage the political careers of former Georgia senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue.
"It was clear they were energized by [Trump] and not the senators on the ballot," Jamerson said.
