A journalist claiming to work for Jesse Watters of Fox News was so unprofessional during a recent interview that it warranted a tongue lashing, according to prize-winning investigative reporter David Cay Johnston, the author of three books on Donald Trump.
Johnston, author of The Big Cheat: How Donald Trump Fleeced America and Enriched Himself and His Family, posted about the interview on Wednesday. He said he has been interviewed by "hundreds of journalists," but that none were "as biased and ignorant as the [Fox News] guy" he dealt with.
"His questions were based on false—ridiculously false—premises yet when I showed him indisputable facts, he persisted," Johnston wrote.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
The purported journalist, whom Johnston only identifies as “Johnny,” allegedly insisted "that America has record high inflation."
"I lived through double digit inflation as high as 13.5%. Our current rate is 3.7%," Johnston said. "Among the 20 major economies in the world that’s the lowest rate."
Johnston added that Johnny’s "questions were also lacking in logic, something he didn’t seem to comprehend."
"I teach interviewing skills all over the world and I’ve never encountered anyone so incompetent and so disinterested in facts. He wasn’t even embarrassed or ashamed," Johnston added.
He then added a challenge to Watters:
"I’d be glad to debate Jesse Watters live on air anytime about the facts versus the made up stuff he pushes. But frankly, I doubt that [Watters] has the competence, confidence, moral courage, or moral fortitude to debate me," Johnston added.
This interview took place outside the Stop Trump Summit, according to the writer.
"Johnny also lackadaisical, acknowledging to me that he failed to apply for press credentials, so @FoxNews could cover the event from inside instead of outside on the curb."
