Former President Donald Trump doesn't want Republican leaders to bend over backward to hand him the nomination.
Officials for the Republican National Committee have reportedly been considering a plan that would declare Trump to be the "presumptive" nominee for 2024, following his victories in Iowa and New Hampshire and the lack of a clear path for his remaining challenger, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, to defeat him.
But in a new post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he doesn't think much of this idea.

"While I greatly appreciate the Republican National Committee (RNC) wanting to make me their PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEE, and while they have far more votes than necessary to do it, I feel, for the sake of PARTY UNITY, that they should NOT go forward with this plan, but that I should do it the 'Old Fashioned' way, and finish the process off AT THE BALLOT BOX," wrote Trump. "Thank you to the RNC for the Respect and Devotion you have shown me! TRUMP2024."
The next contest in the primary calendar in which both Trump and Haley will be on the same ballot is Haley's home state of South Carolina.
Trump has escalated his attacks against Haley, who once served as his U.N. ambassador, in recent days. He has mocked Haley's Indian birth name, and even proclaimed anyone who donates to her campaign is "permanently barred" from the MAGA movement.
