Trump denies watching TV after cable news shows claim he watches lots of TV

President Donald Trump, who regularly tweets in real time about things that he sees on cable TV news, insisted on Wednesday that he has "very little time" to watch cable news.

In a tweet sent out on Wednesday morning, the president wrote that, "The [White House] is functioning perfectly" and "I have very little time for watching T.V."

The president's tweet comes after assorted segments on cable news Wednesday morning discussed a Politico report that claimed Trump is spending most of his time as president watching TV news instead of doing public events.

"A [White House] official said Trump's schedule was unusually light — and that he had been watching TV news and venting about the investigation," Politico wrote. "He hadn't expressed any specific opinions about Trump Jr., this person said, but didn't like that it was generating more negative coverage."

Similarly, the Washington Post also reported this week that "Trump has had no public events since returning Saturday night from Germany but has been closely monitoring developments with his eldest son in the news."

The Post's Philip Rucker talked about the president's TV-watching habits during a segment at around 9 a.m. on MSNBC, roughly 30 minutes before Trump's tweet.

Additionally, in the past three days, Trump has retweeted a total of nine different Fox News videos, including one that falsely accused former FBI Director James Comey of leaking "top secret" information to the news media.
