'Dirty and illegal': Trump lashes out at Casey DeSantis over Iowa caucus statement
December 09, 2023
Casey DeSantis has already taken some heat for her suggestion that out-of-state voters can participate in the Iowa caucus process, and now Donald Trump's campaign is weighing in.
Casey DeSantis, who was mocked numerous times on Friday, including by someone who said she was "done letting Ron talk," after she appeared to urge supporters who don't live in Iowa to travel there and try to vote in the caucus anyway, saying on Fox News, “We’re asking all of these moms and grandmoms to come from wherever it might be — North Carolina, South Carolina — and descend upon the state of Iowa to be a part of the caucus because you do not have to be a resident of Iowa to be able to participate in the caucus. So moms and grandmoms are going to be able to come and be a part and let their voice be heard in support of Ron DeSantis.”

Casey DeSantis later said she meant to encourage out-of-staters to come volunteer (but not to vote), however that didn't stop others from claiming she was encouraging voter fraud.
Trump's campaign took that step, according to Politico.
“The Trump campaign strongly condemns their dirty and illegal tactics and implores all Trump supporters to be aware of the DeSantises’ openly stated plot to rig the Caucus through fraud,” according to the reported statement. It also "called on Iowa governor Kim Reynolds to reaffirm that DeSantis had been mistaken," according to the Politico report.
A Trump PAC also came for Casey DeSantis.
"Trump-aligned Make America Great Again PAC weighed in as well, issuing a statement on 'Casey DeSantis’ Embrace of Voter Fraud,'" Politico reports.
“Casey DeSantis’ embrace of voter fraud to salvage her husband’s failing campaign is not just wrong, it risks compromising the integrity of the Iowa Caucus,” said spokesperson Karoline Leavitt in the statement, according to Politico.
