A former aide to two House Speakers is warning that President Donald Trump will need a hefty spin to handle the fallout of the implementation of tariffs on goods from countries around the globe.
For the second day in a row, the U.S. Dow Jones sank below 40,000 for the first time in nearly a year amid fears about a possible trade war, said MSNBC's Jose Diaz-Balart on Friday.
Brendan Buck, former press secretary to Speakers Paul Ryan (R-WI) and John Boehner (R-OH), said, "It's hard to escape how bad this is."

"I know Donald Trump likes to create his own reality around him, but there are no Republicans on the Hill who are going to look at this and say, this is okay," Buck told the host.
He noted that Trump is burdened with putting "a really good face" on the situation, but it might not help.
"It's not going to fool anybody," said Buck. "There's a lot of people — voters, you know, back home who will, sort of, go along with Donald Trump for a period of time. And a lot of the times, his rhetoric is harmless to them. And it's — sometimes it's easy to just go with whatever Trump's reality is. But this affects everyone, and it's going to affect people for a long time to come."
He predicted the Main Street "consumer impacts and consequences" would follow the market drop.
"I think the politics for Donald Trump are going to change dramatically. He can spin it all he wants right now," Buck continued. "But I think people are going to start turning on him. Not in a way that, you know, he loses his control of the Republican Party. But I think the perception that this is a winner and he's got that aura of power around him, I think that's going to take a real hit here if he doesn't turn this around very quickly."
