Trump and Republicans have a 'normie voters' problem as lawmakers head back to DC: analyst

House Republicans who are headed back to Washington, D.C., hoping the cloud hovering over the Jeffrey Epstein files might have dissipated while they were in their extended summer break, are in for a rude surprise.
That is the opinion of Politico’s Jonathan Martin, who explained on MSNBC that all signs point to the Epstein files and Donald Trump’s involvement with the convicted pedophile will continue to dog the GOP and not just due to critics of the president and far-right conspiracy obsessives.
After watching a clip of podcaster Joe Rogan and singer Jesse Welles discussing the ongoing controversy, with Rogan saying he doesn’t believe Trump’s claim that it is a “Democratic hoax,” MSNBC host Jonathan Lemire asked his guest, “So here it is now, mid-August, the dog days of August, if you will. Republicans went home early, they didn't want to talk about this anymore, they wanted to make this story go away. But it is simply at least, let's talk politics first, as best as Donald Trump is trying, he can't quite shake it.”
After making a joke about Rogan’s guest, Martin told the MSNBC host, “Look, the fact is that the more that folks are back in their districts hearing about this from people, from voters, and by the way, it's from normie voters, John, it's not from, you know, political insiders who are asking about the intricacies of the Build Back, or the Big Beautiful Bill, rather, this is from people like, as you just played, on that Rogan segment. Who were listening to, like, the Joe Rogan's of the world.”
“And that's the challenge,” he elaborated. “And that's why, I think the trump folks tried to release the [Epstein] information out there that's going to pacify voters: ‘See? See nothing here,’ and they couldn't even do that because a federal judge is worried about, ‘Oh yeah. by the way. There's victims here in this case, it's not just some conspiracy theory. It's actually a tragedy too.’”
