President Donald Trump was overheard bragging about a surge in the markets after he ordered a 90-day pause in tariffs that caused a stock selloff over the past week.
During a photo op with racing champions on Wednesday, microphones caught someone praising the president.
"You got the markets seeing your brilliance," the person said.
"Yeah, that's up almost seven points," Trump bragged. "Twenty-five hundred points. Nobody has ever heard of it. It's going to be a record. It's going to be amazing."
Moments later, reporters questioned the president's decision to pause the tariffs.
"Well, I thought that people were jumping a little bit out of line," he replied. "They were getting yippy, you know, they were getting a little bit yippy, a little bit afraid."

"Unlike these champions, because we have a big job to do," Trump added. "No other president would have done what I did. No other president. I know the presidents. They wouldn't have done it."
He also admitted that the bond markets played a part in his decision.
"People were getting a little queasy," he said.
