A commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission took to social media Tuesday to rebuke President Donald Trump for what he called his unlawful firing, and said he plans to testify before the Colorado Joint House and Senate Judiciary Committees on Wednesday.
Alvaro Bedoya has served as a commissioner of the FTC since May 2022. But on Tuesday, he said Trump ended his term.
"I am a commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission. The president just illegally fired me. This is corruption plain and simple," Bedoya wrote on X.

In a statement, Bedoya accused Trump of wanting his now former agency — an independent agency tasked with fighting fraud and monopolies — to "be a lapdog for his golfing buddies."
"Together with Chair Lina Khan and Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter, I spent my time at the FTC fighting for small town grocers and pharmacists and for people in Indian country going hungry because food was too expensive. I fought for workers getting screwed on pay and benefits and overtime. I fought for their right to organize. I fought tech companies who think they can track you and your kids every hour of every day so they can pocket their next billion," said Bedoya.
He asked: "Who will Trump's FTC work for? Will it work for the billionaires? Or will it work for you?"
Bedoya called it an "honor" to serve the country and work alongside FTC staff.
And he gave Americans a piece of advice.
"And to everyone who is watching all of this unfold, don't be scared. Fight back."
