Trump prosecutors want Trump fined $3K for gag order violations — and jailed next time

New York County assistant district attorneys prosecuting Donald Trump asked for sanctions on Monday after accusing the former president of violating a gag order in his hush money trial.

On the first day of the trial, prosecutors signaled they would ask Justice Juan Merchan to hold Trump in contempt. They alleged he violated a gag order three times after the judge ruled Trump could not talk about the potential witness, court staff, or their families.

He then went on to call witnesses Stormy Daniels and Michael Cohen "two sleeze [sic] bags" in a Truth Social post, along with other comments.

"Prosecutors want Trump to pay $3K in sanctions for violating the gag order barring extrajudicial statements about witnesses in 3 recent Truth Social posts," Molly Crane-Newman of the New York Daily News reported from the courtroom.

The prosecutor noted that Trump may have violated the gag order again that morning.

"It’s entirely possible it was done within this courthouse," he said.

Prosecutors requested a $1,000 sanction for each of the three violations. They asked the judge to jail Trump if he violated the order again.

Trump would also have to remove the offending social media posts if prosecutors get their way.
