Donald Trump is "failing in the presidency," and "giving up the game" on Social Security, a lawmaker said on Sunday.
Becca Balint, a Democratic representative from Vermont, appeared on MSNBC over the weekend. There, she was asked about Donald Trump's attacks on judges who rule against him.
To that, Balint said, "He is failing in the presidency."

Balint went on to say that Trump is "working in service of the billionaire class" and that "people are angry" about threats to Social Security and Medicaid. Citizens are "absolutely outraged," according to the lawmaker, who added that Trump is "governing by gimmicks."
Balint then continued:
"I think that this administration is grossly underestimating the fury of people across this country who depend on Social Security and Medicaid to just get by," she said before mentioning a recent pronouncement by Trump Commerce Secretary and billionaire Howard Lutnick.
"And of course, you had Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary, sort of giving up the game the other day when he said, oh, well, my mother wouldn't even notice if her Social Security check didn't come through. Give me a break," he said. "What planet are you on? We have millions of Americans right now who are depending on us to stand up for these programs that they have paid into, that they have earned. And Elon Musk calling it a Ponzi scheme. Again, it is an indication of where Republicans want to go. They always want to touch Social Security. They just lie about it."
