Trump gearing up to replace Ginsburg with ‘brutal confirmation fight’ should her health fail

With the Trump White House doing it all it can to keep the president afloat while buffeted by multiple investigations that could lead to impeachment, aides to the president are also creating battle plans to replace Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg should she have to step down for health reasons.

According to a report at Politico, an official at the conservative Heritage Foundation -- which is expected to highly influence Trump's next pick -- said replacing the liberal Ginsburg is going to lead to a brutal fight.

"It would be a brutal confirmation,” explained John Malcolm of the Heritage Foundation. “The first two were not easy at all, but this would be much harder in this respect: When Neil Gorsuch was the nominee, you were replacing a conservative with a conservative. With Kavanaugh, you were replacing the perennial swing voter, who more times than not sided with the so-called conservative wing so that slightly solidified the conservative wing.”

Due to the 85-year-old Ginsburg's recent health issues -- including broken ribs and another cancer scare -- senior aides within the White House are licking their chops at replacing the liberal icon and changing the direction of the nation's highest court for generations.

"The White House is urging outside allies to be prepared for another bruising confirmation battle should Ginsberg’s health take a sudden turn for the worse, according to four sources with knowledge of the overtures," Politico reports.

Along with outside conservative groups girding for war, the White House is reportedly working with new Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on a short list of nominees who could survive the confirmation problems -- particularly in light of the tumultuous Brett Kavanaugh hearing fights.

According to Hertiage's Malcolm, a Trump replacement of Ginsburg would be huge for conservatives.

"If you are replacing Justice Ginsburg with a Trump appointee, that would be akin to replacing Thurgood Marshall with Clarence Thomas,” Malcolm stated. “It would mark a large shift in the direction of the court."
