Trump had no plans to attend France's 'Bastille Day' -- until he learned there was a military parade

Apparently, all it takes is a military parade to get President Donald Trump to attend your country's celebration.

According to the Washington Post, the French had no expectation of Trump coming to their Bastille Day celebrations during his visit -- until French President Emmanuel Macron told him on a late June phone call that there would be a spectacular military showcase commemorating the day.

Trump reportedly told Macron he would be there, according to a White House official who spoke with the Post on condition of anonymity.

The parade will also commemorate the 100th anniversary of entering World War I, and will feature both French and American troops marching through the streets near the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

The meeting between the French and American heads of state comes just months after the now-infamous handshake at the end of May, shortly after Macron won France's presidential election.
