Trump insists: 'We're not looking at amnesty' for Dreamers

A White House spokesperson said Thursday that President Donald Trump "will not be discussing amnesty" as he negotiates a replacement for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

“As we have said in the past, there will be no amnesty,” White House spokesperson Lindsay Walters told reporters aboard Air Force One, according to The Hill. “Absolutely by no means will this White House discuss amnesty and the president has made it clear how he feels about no amnesty.”

But the spokesperson added that Trump could consider a "responsible path forward in immigration reform" that provides "legal citizenship over a period of time."

After departing Air Force One, the president told reporters: "We’re not looking at citizenship. We’re not looking at amnesty. We’re looking at allowing people to stay here."
