While many in the world were celebrating the birth of Christ, followers of Donald Trump planned a "swatting" attack on special counsel Jack Smith.
NBC News reported Monday evening that two law enforcement sources confirmed someone called police pretending to be from Smith's home and claiming there was an attack. The goal of the attacker is to rile up police enough that they might shoot first and ask questions later, accidently killing the target or someone in the target's family.
"Montgomery County Police dispatched units toward the home but were called off when the Deputy U.S. Marshals protecting Smith and his family told police that it was a false alarm and that everyone inside the home was safe," said NBC News.
The caller said that Smith had shot his wife.
Smith has been the target of non-stop attacks by Trump, both online and in public speeches at rallies.
According to the report, Smith’s attorney Cecil VanDevender told judges from the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals his office has “been subject to multiple threats” and “intimidating communication” after Trump aired “inflammatory posts” about the special counsel on Truth Social.
The news comes after the revelation that Judge Tanya Chutkan also suffered a similar attack on Monday.
