Michael Cohen plans to call Donald Trump Jr. as a witness in his lawsuit against the Trump Organization, CBS News reports.
The former Trump attorney in March, 2019, filed suit against the former president’s family’s company, alleging it owes him around $1.9 million in legal fees for costs associated with investigations held by Congress and special counsel Robert Mueller.
Cohen’s lawsuit alleges the Trump Organization promised to pay his legal fees and did so until he flipped on the former president.
An attorney representing Cohen suggested he seek the former president’s testimony in the case too, but Judge Joel Cohen denied Hunter Winstead’s request.
A Trump Organization attorney opposes either Trump being on the witness list and said his legal team may object to Trump Jr.'s testimony.
"As far as we're concerned, both of those witnesses are irrelevant to the case," said the attorney, James Kiley, calling their inclusion on the list "borderline harassment."
Cohen, who in 2018 pleaded guilty to federal campaign finance violations and tax evasion, alleges that he is owed money for defending himself in investigations in 2017 and 2018.
Cohen is a central witness in the Manhattan case against Trump hush money payments to Stormy Daniels.
