Donald Trump's latest rant about his legal troubles alleges that he is wrongly being tried under a "consumer protection statute."
Trump, who was recently slapped with a gag order in his civil fraud case, hit a familiar note on Tuesday evening when he blamed the trial on "election interference." He went as far as to say a law is being used "unconstitutionally" to punish him for doing well in his presidential campaign.
The former president stopped short of naming and shaming the judge, which he has done in the past but which now would violate his gag order in the New York action.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
"It is so unfair that I am being tried under Section 63(12), which is unconstitutionally being used to punish me because I am substantially leading Crooked Joe Biden in the polls," Trump said on Tuesday. "It is a Consumer Protection Statute, and not meant, at all, for Election Interference purposes, which is what this is all about!"
Trump went on to say that, under this "section of the law, I am not even entitled to a JURY (there is no checking of a box alternative!)." Several other reports suggest he didn't receive a jury trial because his attorneys failed to ask for that format.
"This was done by Radical Left Marxists design, and is not the America we know. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump said Tuesday.
