As U.S District Court for the District of Columbia Judge Tanya Chutkan ponders issuing a limited gag order on Donald Trump to keep him for inciting violence against prosecutors, jurors and judges, a former prosecutor claimed the restriction on what Trump could say would also benefit his legal team.
According to former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance, the former president is not only his worst enemy due to his penchant for saying whatever is on his mind, but he is also making his lawyer's plans to defend him in four separate courtrooms harder than it should be.
On her "Civil Discourse" Substack platform, Vance stated Trump's lawyers would probably appreciate the D.C.-based judge making the former president do something that they have been unable to do: watch his mouth.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
As Vance pointed out, Chutkan owes both sides a ruling on the gag order while noting, "Trump has relentlessly attacked witnesses, judges and prosecutors. He appears to be doing everything he can to try and speak to what he hopes will be that one future juror who will hold out and prevent him from being convicted."
Those attacks, she notes, could also be used to make the case that he is engaging in obstruction, a charge he is already facing in Florida Judge Aileen Cannon's courtroom.
According to the former federal prosecutor, "If granted, a 'gag order' might benefit Trump, who apparently can’t listen to his lawyers’ certain advice to quit discussing the case in public."
"Every time Trump makes a public statement, he seems to be walking a perilous tightrope between confession and additional obstruction of justice," she added.
