Appearing on MSNBC's "The Weekend" just moments after correspondent Garrett Haake claimed Donald Trump may have created a "real problem" with borderline racist remarks before a Black crowd on Friday night, the chair of the South Carolina Republican first tried to duck addressing the issue then scrambled to blow it off.
SC GOP Chair Drew McKissick was invited to talk about the former president's speech before the Black Conservative Federation's Annual BCF Honors Gala on Friday night and co-host Symone D. Sanders-Townsend immediately put him on the defensive.
"Mister chairman, I'm wondering, what is your reaction to the comments from former president Donald Trump last night at that conservative rally in South Carolina?" she began only to have McKissick demur, "Well, I wasn't there, and there wasn't able to hear all the audio in what you're talking about here just a minute ago."
"Oh, I'm so sorry, mister chairman! let me play the clip for you," she shot back and then, after rerunning the clip of Trump stating, "These lights are so bright in my eyes I can't see too many people out there... I can only see the Black ones. I can't see any white ones. That's how far I've come. That's a long way isn't it?" she pressed, "Your reaction, sir?"

"Look, if at this point, everyone doesn't know the way Donald Trump speaks and has spoken since he came on scene 2015 then they haven't been in this country very long," he attempted without addressing the content of Trump's remarks.
"Donald Trump is like a billionaire construction worker, I mean that's the way he talks," he offered. "And if we haven't gotten used to that, then they're not going to."
"So, the fact, as you get a room full of people there, as was pointed out a minute ago who are conservatives," he added. "Those black conservatives who are engaged in our party, who support the president, they invited him to come be there, and I'm sure enjoyed having him there last night."
