Sunday morning an MSNBC panel covering the Iowa caucus slated for Monday began laughing when host Ali Velshi noted that Donald Trump threw Vivek Ramaswamy — one of his most avid supporters — under the bus late Saturday.
On Truth Social, the former president wrote, "Unfortunately, now all he does is disguise his support in the form of deceitful campaign tricks," before adding, "Very sly, but a vote for Vivek is a vote for the 'other side' — don’t get duped by this. Vote for 'TRUMP,' don’t waste your vote! Vivek is not MAGA."
The moment host Velshi mentioned Ramaswamy's name, MSNBC correspondents Dasha Burns and Vaughan Hilyard both smirked and then started laughing.
Asked what led to the break-up, the smiling Burns told the host, "It's a great question. I do think that the budding bromance between former president Trump and Vivek Ramaswamy has absolutely wilted."
"He started this campaign as his sort of staunchest defender and I know, especially since our sit-down between NBC News and the Des Moines Register, Vivek Ramaswamy took some shots at the former president, where he called him a 'wounded warrior,' saying that they duped him, that they would not dupe Ramaswamy," she explained.
"That did not sit well with the former president and his team," Burns elaborated. "And they are now taking aim at him and that is a problem for Ramaswamy because the vast majority of his success in this primary has come from his role as sort of the Trump guy; the mini-Trump Junior or whatever you want to call it. He has shot himself in the foot with that lane and where he goes beyond that is a big question mark."
"He is not winning over any voters that aren't in that Trump camp," she continued.
She later joked, "I've got to tell you, I don't know, but sitting down for an interview with him is like being in a washing machine, Ali."
