A new CNN report claims President Donald Trump “has privately complained that the Supreme Court justices he appointed have not sufficiently stood behind his agenda.”
The outlet cites multiple sources who are familiar with more than one conversation.
Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett were appointed by Trump during his first term. CNN cited one source who claimed that Trump has “directed particular ire” at Barrett.
Paraphrasing the sources, CNN wrote, “The behind-closed-doors grievances have been wide-ranging. Another added, “The complaints have gone on for at least a year.”
“It’s not just one ruling. It’s been a few different events he’s complained about privately,” a senior administration official told CNN.
Barrett was the last judge Trump appointed. She replaced Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg after her death in 2020.

CNN asked the White House about Trump’s alleged disdain for the judges. Principal deputy press secretary Harrison Fields said in a statement, “President Trump will always stand with the U.S. Supreme Court, unlike the Democrat Party, which, if given the opportunity, would pack the court, ultimately undermining its integrity.”
Fields went on to say, “The President may disagree with the Court and some of its rulings, but he will always respect its foundational role.”
A spokesperson for the Supreme Court did not respond to a request for comment.
CNN claims the scorn for Barrett is slightly unfounded because the criticism overlooks “the fact that Barrett remains a reliable vote for conservative outcomes at the Supreme Court.”
Citing data from the Empirical SCOTUS blog, CNN reported that Barrett “voted with the court’s two most conservative justices – Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito – more than 80% of the time in the term that ended last year.”
